The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a combination gauge for fuel and coolant temperature, and an analog clock. A seam has split on the top of the back seat. Work completed under previous ownership is said to have included re-dying the seats, dash, console, and door panels, replacing the carpets, aluminum dash panels, sill plates, door handles and actuators, driver and passenger window motors, rear package tray, and heater box ducting as well as installing of aluminized padding in the interior and trunk. Equipment includes red carpets, power-operated windows, a push-button radio, a heater, and a swing-away steering column. The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl with aluminum trim accenting the matching dashboard, center console, and door panels. Additional work reportedly included replacement of the wheel bearings and seals, power steering pressure hose, and rear shocks. Power-assisted steering is installed, and stopping power is provided by power-assisted drum brakes which are said to have been recently serviced with replacement brake shoes and hardware, hoses, wheel cylinders, and a master cylinder as well as refurbishing the brake booster and turning the drums. Features include a chrome grille, bumpers, and trim, a hood scoop, rear fender skirts, and dual side mirrors.īlack 14″ steel wheels wear polished factory covers and are fitted with whitewall tires. The Thunderbird was re-styled for 1961, and this example was refinished in white in 1994 under previous ownership. This Thunderbird is offered with service records and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name. Work in November 2021 included replacement of the brakes, suspension components, cooling system, carpets, interior trim, and fuel system components as well as re-dying of the upholstery and rebuilding the transmission and carburetor. The car is said to have been registered in Colorado since new and was acquired by the seller in June 2021 from the family of the reported original owner. An oil change and mechanical inspection were recently completed. The 3-speed automatic transmission and radiator have been rebuilt, and newer ancillary parts include a power steering pump, battery, and fuel tank. Power comes from a non-original 390ci V8 that has been fitted with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and a stainless Magnaflow exhaust. The stock vinyl-wrapped steering wheel remains intact with distinctive aircraft-style instruments behind. The interior is finished in white vinyl with brushed aluminum trim that extends across the dashboard, center console, and both doors. A non-functioning left-quarter window and erratic power driver’s seat are both noted. The front brakes have been converted to discs while the rear retains the factory drums. Rolling stock consists of steel wheels with stylized covers and newer tires. The car was repainted in 2016 and shows a few minor imperfections and a noted scratch on the trunk lid. Brightwork shows minor wear in some areas, but otherwise appears to be intact. Engine displacement has been slightly increased and other features include an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and stainless exhaust. This Thunderbird is being offered with rebuild documentation, a recent oil change, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. This 1961 Ford Thunderbird is a lightly modified example that features a professional-built, non-original Ford 390ci V8 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission, new paint and interior, rebuilt suspension, and more as described below.
